Government has devalued the lives of poor Nigerians

Image
The lives of millions of poor Nigerians have continued to deteriorate without reprieve as a result of the people-unfriendly policies of the present administrations at the center and in the states. This view was expressed by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The removal of the fuel subsidy by the government at the onset of this dispensation has brought about hunger and hardships for millions of poor Nigerians. The government increased electricity tariffs when millions of Nigerians are still paying for darkness. Presently the Premium Motor Spirit is in short supply and Nigerians are passing through heart-rendering experiences to make ends meet, while certain individuals in the labor unions are busy feathering their own nests. The government at all levels have devalued the lives of Nigerians.  The present situation is a bad omen for the government,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.

Outward Ceremonials of Religion

Image
When seeking justice and righteousness, we should act correctly towards the needy and oppressed. Outward ceremonials of religion cannot cover up for transgressions. Amos 5:16-27 God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph. 16 Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing  shall be  in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing. 17 And in all vineyards  shall be  wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD. 18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end  is  it for you? the day of the LORD  is  darkness, and not light. 19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20 Shall  not the day of the LORD  be  darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it? 2...

Tips with Mrs Hannah Adefunke Mujakperuo

Girls in Nigeria have numerous challenges to contend with.  Poverty, peer pressure, early marriage, unwanted pregnancy, negligence, rape, ignorance, lack of parental care.  The list is endless. Even though leaders at all levels have made noticeable efforts to give girls a future, a lot still has to be done, in terms of guidance, legislation, interventions, funding and monitoring. For parents and guardians-''Ensure you groom your children and wards in the proper way, so that they will not soil your name. For society-''Do not cover up wrong deeds, rather expose the same for the uplifting of society For the Places of Worship-'' Preach and teach the girls all that will mold them to be God-fearing, responsible, reliable and dependable. Mrs Mujakperuo holds a master's degree in Security Studies and is also a doctoral student.

The Guilty

Image
The way the leaders of some nations have set for themselves is indeed a path to destruction. The future seems bleak because the rich and powerful are becoming more prosperous and pretend not to realize that they have attained their positions by unjust means.  They are guilty. God is desirous for them to live, on the condition that they change their ways and seek justice. Their social immorality and injustice are the barriers between themselves and their creator. Amos 5:1-15 Hear ye this word which I take up against you,  even  a lamentation, O house of Israel. 2 The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land;  there is  none to raise her up. 3 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out  by  a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth  by  an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel. 4 For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live: ...

The God of Hosts

Image
The grace of God is free to us, but always costly to God. We should not take God for granted. He warns us of our disobedience and calls us to repentance with signs and wonders. A true repentance is reflected in deeds of trusting obedience. Amos 4:6-13 And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when  there were  yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. 8 So two  or  three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 9 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured...

Fear as a Tool for Governance

The security agencies ought to be proactive and go for cultists, both male and female, whom ambitious politicians and private estate developers  have placed in various communities within Nigeria for sinister purposes.  The stretch from Molusi street, through Solanke street down to Olorunsogo, Molete, Felele and  Scout camp, all in Ibadan, Oyo state in the South West Geo-Political zone of Nigeria have been occupied by cultists and other criminal elements, who on a daily basis, threaten, intimidate, attack and dispossess  innocent Nigerians of their valuables. They move in groups. In addition, homosexuality, rape and armed robbery are some of the sign posts of the activities of these criminals. Not surprisingly, those in charge of the protection of lives and property have overtime exhibited nonchalance in relation to this development. Interestingly,  a Police rank and file alongside his wife operates a beer parlor at the Oyegbami street junction of Olorunsogo,...

The Struggle with Inner Evil

Image
We should pray for those who no longer admit an inner struggle with evil. They can no longer ward off evil because of that, they have surrendered to their evil passions. Ephesians 4:17-24 17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Girls ought to be Nurtured and Protected not Exploited-Mrs. Mujakepruo

Image
As primary and secondary schools in Nigeria prepare to resume for the third term, the Chief Executive Officer of KEAABS Oil and Gas Limited, Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, Mrs. Hannah Adefunke Mujakperuo, a master’s degree holder and doctoral student, in this interview, advised the government at all levels to do all that is necessary for girls to accomplish. Excerpts: Schools are about to resume for the third term. What is your advice to the government?  Girls do not deserve to be exploited, but rather protected and nurtured.  The social, economic and political situation in Nigeria has impacted negatively on girls. However, it is disturbing to note that parents and guardians are now openly supporting female children to embrace prostitution as a means to an end. This is dangerous for society. The government at all levels should do all that is possible to ensure that girls have unhindered access to quality education by making provision for the needed facilities, addressing the iss...

His Uncomfortable Words

Our prayers should revolve around seeking God's help to accept His uncomfortable words. Amos 3:1-15 1 Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? 4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing? 5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin  is  for him? shall  one  take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all? 6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done  it ? 7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. 8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD h...

We want a Living Wage-Federal workers

Image
Federal workers in Nigeria have vowed to reject any amount that does not translate to a living wage. The workers made this vow through the former chairman of the Oyo state council of the  Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''We call for justice, we demand a decent, fair and just living wage for the federal work force. We will resist and reject anything less than a living wage. Our government should also not forget to clear all outstanding arrears owed to the federal workers. We specially call on the NLC/TUC to be very reasonable and pragmatic in their negotiation for a new national minimum wage. We are in total support of the position of the NLC/TUC for a yearly review of the national minimum wage,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.
