Mao Zedong popularly known as Chairman Mao, was successful with his noble goals for China through despotic means.

His leadership was severe, dictatorial and personalized.

For as long as Chairman Mao's  cultural revolution lasted, thousands of Chinese died of starvation and inhuman labor.

Mao and his co-travelers argued that same was the price their people had to pay  for re-education.

This brand of governance ensured the extermination of the heroes of the civil war and the old party chieftains by the President's armed squad.

Chairman Mao is perhaps the role model of those who hold sway in Nigeria today.

Indeed, the former Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai is among several other political office holders, who adored the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Those in support of this argument insist that on a number of occasions, the  former Kaduna state Governor had knelt down to greet and/or consult with the former President. 

They maintain that this was only a sign of respect in the traditional African setting.

Nigerians are yet to stop complaining of constitutional breaches and the unabated trampling of the rule of law in the dust, without noticeable changes by the powers that be.

From recent events in the country, the economic reform programs of the All Progressives  Congress(APC) led government at the center and  in the states, are modeled along the thinking of a free market economy.

It is doubtful, if government, in the last three years, has managed the economy for the benefit of Nigerians.

Of worry is the state of manufacturing industries, which could be said to be epileptic, even as food security is a  mirage, insecurity is the chorus everywhere, while crude oil remains the major hope of the present administration.

Interestingly, the future growth of the Nigerian economy  rests comfortably on diversification and focus on  visionary and creative people friendly economic policies, although government still over-rely and over-depends on crude oil to fund its programs.

Can the present administration turn around the troubled economy ? Nobody knows.

The Local Scene

General unemployment and widespread poverty now characterize daily living in different parts of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The glaring absence of constant interaction between Nigerians and their leaders may be a clog in the wheel in translating the aspirations of millions of Nigerians into concrete reality.

Indeed, hope for the introduction of policy measures that will address the needs of the people has dimmed considerably.

Sadly, oppression, repression, and suppression have become instruments of governance in this dispensation.

The confidence and bravery exhibited by criminals in promoting their stock in trade in several communities, particularly in Olorunsogo, Molete, Molusi, Onafuwa Solanke, Oyegbami, Oshodi, Aluko, Scout Camp, and Felele, all in Ibadan, Oyo State, is the sole indicator that law enforcement operatives are complicit in the spate of indiscipline, lawlessness, criminality, and evil.

Leadership failure at all levels now belongs to familiar grounds.

What would aid good governance is not in place. Rather, unnecessary criticism and condemnation of trailing the activities of Those-in-Charge visible are setbacks.

Sadly, the trend among leaders in most climes, is to take positions on sensitive issues without thoughtful analysis of available facts.

Remain Calm and Law Abiding-Comrade Emelieze to ASCSN members

 

Members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN) in tjhe Ministries Departments and Agencies have been called upon to remain calm and law-abiding.

This call was made by the former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''Ever since the delay in the delivery of the judgment on the ASCSN leadership crisis matter before the National Industrial Court, members of the association have remained disturbed and worried. However, they should remain ca;lm and law-abiding as we await the decision of the court. The Judiciary still remains the last hope of ordinary Nigerians,'' Comrade Emelieze noted.

A moderate standard of learning must include the ability of a child to be able to spell ordinary words, correctly to write legibly and intelligently, to make out or check a common bill, to have sufficient geographical knowledge to know the position of the countries of the world and, above all, to be sufficiently acquainted with the Scriptures.

 

Our Leaders should Learn from Former Leaders-Onyendu Ndigbo

 

The present crop of leaders in Nigeria have been called upon to learn from past leaders.

This call was made on Thursday by the Onyendu Ndigbo of Oyo state, High Chief Alloy Obi on the sidelines of the 2024 Samuel Ladoke Akintola Memorial lecture and Award Presentation in Ibadan, Nigeria.

''Politicians should sustain the legacies they left behind by past leaders.. They should also learn from our former leaders. Furthermore, Nigerians should be prayerful. We need prayers to overcome the country's challenges,'' High Chief Obi stated.

Inflation and Others-Signs of a Faulty Leadership-Comrade Emelieze

 

The strangulating inflation, prohibitive prices of goods and services and the poor performance of the Naira in the exchange market are all signposts of a faulty leadership foisted on Nigerians.

This assertion was made by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''The inflation in the country has brought about untold hardships, sufferings and difficulties for millions of Nigerians, coupled with the poor showing of the Naira in the exchange market. All these are credible indicators that faulty leadership has been foisted on Nigerians and the World Bank knows this fact and is utilizing it to the fullest. It is very glaring in all sectors of the economy,''Comrade Emelieze stated.

The Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, Eze(Dr.) Alex Anozie, has admonished newly inaugurated political office holders to administer and oversee the affairs of those that elected them with the fear of God. Eze(Dr.) Anozie, who is also the chairman of the state chapter of the Association of Non-Indigenes Heads, gave this admonition on Monday minutes after the inauguration of the political office holders across Nigeria. ''Let them have the fear of God in everything they do. My good will message to all political office holders from top to bottom is for them to work for a truly united Nigeria where truth, justice, equity, fairness and peace reign supreme. Nigerians should love one another, not minding their ethnic and religious differences. This is the foundation. If we work hard, the sky is our limit. In another development, Eze(Dr.) Anozie on behalf of the Igbos and Non-Indigenes in Oyo state has congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II on the approval by the outgoing President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) for the conferment of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic on the first class traditional ruler. ''I and my people, Ohanezenidgbo, and all non-indigenes in Ibadan and Oyo state appreciate the honor done to the Olubadan. He merits it because he is a peace-loving Olubadan, who loves all ethnic groups, all Nigerians residing in Ibadan. The Olubadan deserves it. I am therefore congratulating him and all Ibadan indigenes, because if the Olubadan gets something good, he has got it for himself and the whole Ibadan and vice versa. So, I am congratulating him. He is a very kind, humble and God-fearing person, who believes in truth, justice and fairness.

Bad Leadership-Nigeria is not an Exception-Eze(Dr.) Anozie

Nigeria is not an exception when it comes top bad leadership.

This assertion was made by the Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, Eze(Dr.)Alex Anozie. ''There is nothing like that. I am only saying that truth and justice should always prevail. As regards bad leadership, Nigeria is not an exception. I am talking about the whole world. Bad leadership is causing crises all over the world. I am only showing sympathy for justice, equity and fairness and selfless leadership and leadership by example. I have been Ezendigbo for 26 years, nobody is paying for my services. There is peace in my domain. So, what I am saying is about the whole world at large and Nigeria is part of the world. Everybody knows the situation in Nigeria. But I must congratulate this government for putting machinery in motion for the completion of the second Niger Bridge. I was one of the people that first called for the construction of the second Niger Bridge and I am happy that we have seen the completion of the bridge. If I have my way and also God's support, I would also suggest that we have a modern rail line from Lagos to Onitsha passing through Ibadan, from Onitsha down to Enugu, from Enugu straight to Abuja, from Abuja back to Lagos, a modern rail line,'' Eze(Dr.) Anozie concluded

A God Fearing Leadership in Nigeria will bring about peace in Nigeria-Head Oyo Association of Non-Indigenes

The omission and commission of the leadership in al spheres of life in Nigeria, has brought the country to its present worrisome state. In his views, the Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, who is also the Head of the Association of Non-Indiggenes in Oyo state, Eze(Dr.) Alex Anozie maintains that the emergence of of a good and God-fearing leadership in Nigeria will change the narrative. Excerpts: God created this world very beautifully so that man should live peacefully and happily. But due to selfish, wicked, conscienceless leaders, the world is on fire. There are crises everywhere. Human lives are wasted on a daily basis. I am saying it loud and clear,that anywhere there are crises, most of such are caused by bad leadership. Ordinary people are very ready to live peacefully with each other, if well led, and well governed, no matter their ethnic and religious differences, they can live peacefully together. Politicians should come to help in this situation. If there is good and God-fearing leadership anywhere, there would be peace in that country or society. Good leadership means leadership where justice, equity, fairness and the fear of God reigns. A leadership where citizens condemn injustice, deceit and fraud, lawlessness, no matter whose ox is gored. A leadership that does things the right way, because no matter whatever anyone is doing, if you do the right thing the wrong way, you are wrong. If you do the wrong thing the right way, you are still wrong, but when things are done the right way, everything will move on right and there will be peace everywhere. Bad leadership is the problem the world is always having. I am of the firm belief that with good leaders, most wars all over the world will be minimized. It is either the leaders are corrupt, or they are selfish, leaving the right thing that promotes justice and sanity and doing the wrong things that promote injustice, hardship and hatred among the citizens. In Nigeria now, those who think that they are enjoying the music as they look on, ethnic groups abusing and insulting themselves, should have a rethink. Let us all Nigerians join hands and voices together in condemning that which is evil, and encourage that which is good, for the good and unity and peace of our dear country. I am saying this because a stitch in time saves nine. Let us forget our ethnic and religious differences and call a spade a spade. Only the truth can set us free in this country.

We cannot Turn down Oyo Gov's Invitation-Chairman Association of Traditional Heads of Non-Indigenes

Controversy continues to trail meetings the Oyo state Governor has with various interest groups in the state. In his reaction, the Eze Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state, who is also the chairman of the Association of Traditional Heads of Non-Indigenes in the state, Eze(Dr.) Alex Anozie opines that there is no way members of the association will ignore the state Governor, who invited them for a meeting. Excerpts: Mixed reactions have trailed your association's meeting with the Oyo state Governor what is your position? As the Governor of the state, he invited the heads of the ethnic groups for a meeting. We had no option but to attend the meeting. There is just no way we can ignore the Governor or disrespect him; we must honor him as the Governor of the state where we reside. If we do otherwise, that means we are not law abiding because we should be working together as partners in progress, as the leaders of the ethnic groups in the state. We didn't know why he invited us and when we got there, he informed us of his intention to run for a second term and I don't think he has committed any crime by informing us of his intention to run for a second term. To continue the work he is doing and the constitution also allows him to do that if he is voted in by the people. And I do not think that we have committed any crime by honoring his invitation as the Governor of the state. He spoke and we listened to him. That is all. I do not see any crime he or we have committed. We are all working for the peace and progress of the state. That is our target. Anyone at any time who becomes the state Governor, that invites us, we will not disrespect him. If God answers his prayers and allows him to come back for a second term, that will be the end of his mandatory two terms. After this, if he, again, invites us that he wants to continue after two terms, we will tell him pointblank No, that he is going against the constitution . After his second term, anyone that God brings in to become the state Governor, if he invites us in that same manner, we will honor the invitation and listen to him or her again.

Elections-We don't want a Sectional Leader-Prof. Olagoke

Nigeria needs a detribalized leader who will be able to address its multiferous challenges. This assertion was made over the weekend by the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Islam worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke in his address titled, ''Governance and Leadership : 2023 Election and Effective Participation'', at the grand finale of the 40th Annual Shafaudeen International Convention, ''Ishrat 2023'', in Ibadan, Nigeria. ''Our challenges are solvable problems. We don't want a sectional leader. We don't want a tribal leader, but rather, we want a leader who will lead all Nigerians leaders who have not been able to solve the country's problems, and are not supposed to get to the exalted position. Nigeria deserves to have Godly, but non-religious bigot leaders for good governance for our unity and development. He must be able to see to the restructuring of the country and the amendment of the 1999 constitution for us to have fiscal federalism in place that will allow regions, states, local governments to control resources for their development through the right placement of items on the exclusive list and consider concurrent lists. All eligible voters must get registered, collect their Permanent Voters Cards and come out to vote for candidates of their choice, but with the positive mindset of objective exercise to elect a credible leader for real change, Nigeria deserves to have to be truly united and developed.

The expectation of Nigerians is that credible leaders with passion to put an end to hunger and poverty in the country will emerge after the general elections. This assertion was made on Thursday by the Founder, Spiritual head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeeen-inIslam worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke in his lecture titled ''Leadership and the Three Rings of Life'' at the second Ogunelu Aaare Alasa Dynasty day in collaboration with Shafaudeen-in-Islam Medical Outreach in Ibadan, Nigeria. ''Nigerians are expecting credible leaders at all levels of government, who will lift them out of hunger, poverty and unemployment to emerge after the general elections.Only credible leaders at all levels of government, who are purposeful, visionary, emotionally and passionately patriotic, ready to sacrifice their best to serve the people will all digilence can be goal getters and unifying factors to the people of diverse interest-religious, ethnic divides and gender equlaity challenge. The President Nigeria Needs by Eze(Dr.) Alex Anozie

I want to encourage our people, South Easterners, to continue in their prayers trusting God, because I can see God's hands at work trying to use a personality from the South East to deliver and secure Nigeria. To use a personality from the South East as a messiah like God used Moses in the Bible. And I can see a lot of good things, positive things beginning to happen when that person gets into the position of President, and I am very happy because that person is a person of integrity, and he respects everyone from the North, everyone from the South. I have never heard him using any foul or abusive language on any personality. That scores him very high, gives him very high marks in my own assessment. I hail him for that. I don't like the way, for whatever reasons, anybody is using abusive language on anybody, it is not good for our politics, it is not good for our country, Nigeria, because that is how war started in many African countries. Throw me, I throw you. We must not fight another war in Nigeria. But I am appealing to everyone to stop using abusive words against anybody, just make your point that would be contributing to the peace of the country.

All the presidential candidates contesting are good materials, but so many things would have to be put into consideration. One, conscientiously putting our conscience into use, let us ask ourselves the question as people who fear God and worship God among all the contestants, who among them can be chosen, and the question becomes balanced as we are searching for the peace and unity of the country. If truly we are searching for not only peace and unity, but also progress. Among them, we know those of them, who come from the zone that has produced the President for several years in the past and present, and also those among them from the side where the presidency has not gotten to them for once. That is one of the criteria I am looking at, then the age of each one of them, knowing our country Nigeria as a country that is so large and the challenges of Nigeria are numerous and needs somebody who is younger and agile. Then, I want to plead with all Nigerians not only Igbos, to look at the whole issue critically-justice, equity and fairness because when in a family you have 3, 4, 5 or 6 children, all must benefit, others have benefited, or a particular section has benefited, then when it is supposed to be the turn of another section, everybody jumps in, including those who have benefited, it is not the best for the country. It is like a situation where we are three in a family and in the plate of soup we are eating from, there are three pieces of meat and one person takes one, another takes the second meat and the third meat is left for the last person, but instead of allowing the third person to take it, the others scramble for it. There is no fairness in that, there is no justice in that. But if the three pieces of meat are shared equally among the three persons, this would contribute greatly to the growth, peace and unity of the nation. So, the last person should be allowed to take the third meat, that is the essence of been Christians, Muslims and Traditionalists, we all believe in God. Had it been in the particular family in question, one of them is not qualified, that would be a different matter entirely. Thank God, someone has sprung up in the South East, who is over qualified in all ramifications. So, I appeal to Nigerians to look at the issue with conscience and the fear of God. Finally, I appeal to everyone to cease from using abusive words against each other, it is not the best for the country. Let's apply the live and let's live approach and the country will enjoy, peace, unity and more progress. Let everybody remember what I said earlier on that all the candidates are good materials, so this very one coming from the South East is a good material and younger. Wrong Decisions and Leadership

Human capacity development is key to the development of any country in the world. To achieve development, the appropriate manpower that will impact positively on society is imperative. What is the standard of education? There are yet to be positive changes in primary, secondary and tertiary education. This is because maximum efficiency and productivity in the system are elusive. The hunger and poverty in the land have impaired skill acquisition at all levels of education to the extent that it has negatively affected the decision of the leaders at the center and states of the federation. The wrong decision by the leadership at a particular point in time resulted in the kidnap incident at Chibk, Borno state. The effects of the kidnap is alive till this moment. Such leadership has been tested and discovered to be faulty. Indeed. The last seven years are enough to ensure that wrong decisions are not made again, to avoid a repeat of the gory and harrowing experiences of Nigerians. Note Be wary of criminally minded individuals in journalism who conspire with law enforcement and security agencies to attack professional journalists.

2023-Pray for Competent Leaders to Emerge

Former Oyo state Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has called on Nigerians to pray fervently and ceaselessly for the emergence of competent leaders who shall possess the ability to deliver at all levels of Government. Sen. Ladoja made this call recently in an interaction with journlaists, some hours after his elevation to the postion of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan, Oba Olalkean Blaogun, at hsi Ondo street, Bodiaj, Ibadan, Nigeria home. ''Nigerians should continue to pray for peace and unity. They should also pray for the emergence of competent leaders that shall be able to deliver. We need to be paryerful. Let us continue to pray to God,'' the fomrer Governor stated.

Insecurity: Presidential Aspirants Govs and Lawmakers Selfish-Ex-Officio TUC

The series of declarations of intentions to contest for various political offices in the 2023 general elections by presidential aspirants, State Governors, and Lawmakers for second term tickets in the face of unabated kidnappings, killings, and ritual killings in Nigeria are reflections of the self-serving nature of those involved. This assertion was made by an Ex-Officio of the Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), who is also a former chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''It is a big surprise that despite the daily kidnappings, killings, ritual killings, and violent crimes, the focus of presidential aspirants, State Governors, and lawmakers revolves around their selfish desires and aspirations for election for various positions and second term tickets. If only they love and care for Nigerians, they should be agitating for an end to the kidnappings, killings, ritual killings, and other violent crimes.'' ''It is sad, they have done nothing to stop all these. Nothing! 92 Nigerians were killed recently in Plateau state and over a hundred others were kidnapped in the train attack in Kaduna. What have they done about these happenings? Nothing! Yet they are aspiring to occupy public offices. Considering the unending insecurity across the country, will elections hold in 2023? Nobody knows,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.
