Sowing vegetables is a mockery of Nigeria's precarious situation-Comrade Emelieze

Image
The garden initiative introduced by the First lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has exposed the questionable mindset of those in leadership positions in the present dispensation. This assertion was made by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''Millions of Nigerians are dying on a daily basis of hunger and poverty. Those who cannot withstand the hardships are committing suicide. The First lady, Senator Oulremi Tinubu, believes that the planting of vegetables is the way to go, but that is wrong. The present situation in the country has gone beyond planting vegetables in a garden.  This initiative is a mockery of the very dangerous situation, which has so far defied all soltuions put forward by the government at all levels,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.

The Fate of Poor Nigerians

Image
The Poo r Report published in 1834 outlined the degradation and inefficiency of the Speenham system that had flourished across England for almost 40 years. The system encouraged demoralization, rude behavior, laziness, thriftlessness, and immorality of the poor. The lack of centralization, dependence on the parish initiative, and the absence of a responsive and responsible authority weakened the system. The resultant administrative anarchy gave rise to the emergence of several petty interests trailed by corruption. Poor relief was a disservice to the poor, a drain on the rich, and a threat to the government. The Poor Law Amendment Act of August 14, 1834, made no difference but established administrative machinery, giving prominence to three remote impersonal Commissioners in London. Their activities resulted in despondency, disillusionment, and anger among the majority of the poor. In present-day Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the...

Government has devalued the lives of poor Nigerians

Image
The lives of millions of poor Nigerians have continued to deteriorate without reprieve as a result of the people-unfriendly policies of the present administrations at the center and in the states. This view was expressed by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The removal of the fuel subsidy by the government at the onset of this dispensation has brought about hunger and hardships for millions of poor Nigerians. The government increased electricity tariffs when millions of Nigerians are still paying for darkness. Presently the Premium Motor Spirit is in short supply and Nigerians are passing through heart-rendering experiences to make ends meet, while certain individuals in the labor unions are busy feathering their own nests. The government at all levels have devalued the lives of Nigerians.  The present situation is a bad omen for the government,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.

Image

Nigerians have Resorted to Protests against hunger and hardships in the Land-Comrade Emelieze

Image
Nigerians have decided to resort to protests as a last resort against the hunger and hardships in the country. This assertion was made by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''Protests are natural and equally lawful, constitutional and legitimate. Protests is the only option open to distraught Nigerians in the face of acute hunger, poverty and hardships in the land.'' ''Labor is on the side of Nigerians, we urge all to be on the side of the people by rejecting hunger, poverty, unemployment and hardships in the land,'' Comrade Emelieze concluded.

It has been 100 days of torture and hardships for Nigerians-Comrade Emelieze

Image
The 100 days of the present administration in Nigeria have been described as a period of torture, difficulties and hardships. This is the submission of a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC) Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The first 100 days of this administration have been 100 days of torture, difficulties, hardships, sorrows and lamentations for Nigerians. The administration should come out with distinct and clear-cut policies that will take the country out of the deep pit it now finds itself.'' ''Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of the so-called distribution of palliatives in the states because of the dubious ways these palliatives were shared among those who know themselves. Almost nothing got to the majority of impoverished Nigerians,'' Comrade Emelieze declared.

Government Palliatives are a Mockery of Nigerians-Comrade Emelieze

Image
The economic support announced by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of the hunger and poverty in Nigeria has been described as a mockery of Nigerians. According to a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze, '' the fact remains that millions of Nigerians are not in support of any form of palliatives.'' ''The government is using palliatives to deceive and make mockery of Nigerians. The palliatives that have been announced by the government are insignificant compared with a country where millions of the population live in abject poverty. The government seems to be promoting wickedness, heartlessness and insensitivity. If they think that this is what Nigerians are worth, then Nigerians should not expect anything good from the government.'' The Police is not a Secret Society It is a known fact that the Police is not a secret society, but when it selects journalists that will cover its ...

Dormant LGs may Mar Distribution of Palliatives-NASU warns

Image
The successful distribution of economic support to poor Nigerians may be marred by the dormant status of the Local Government system in many states in the country. This assertion was made by the chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) University Coellge Hospital(UCH) branch, Ibadan, Nigeria, Comarade Kehinde Abiona. ''Go to so many Local Government councils, they hardly have money to clear their bushy environment, talkless of money to renovate bad roads. The Ministry of local governments and chieftaincy affairs now think about local governments. The distribution of palliatives is supposed to be handled by the local governments, not the state governors. But what you have now is that the state governors will buy and distribute them from household to household. Let the local governments be in charge of distribution, not the other way round. Let the governors hand over the responsibilities to the local governments to distribute. A decentralized s...
