The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria(MHWUN) in Oyo state on Tuesday suspended the 7-day warning strike embarked upon to press home their demands. According to the chairman of the union, Comrade Olumuyiwa Fabunmi, the State Executive Council of the union, after a meeting on Wednesday, decided to reconvene next week,''we have decided to give the state government another seven days because we received a letter, we will reply to the state government's letter.'' ''We have not called off the strike, we have only suspended it. We will reconvene next week.''

  The chairman of the Nigeria Labor Congress in Oyo state, Comrade Kayode Martins, has called on the state Governor to urgently come to the rescue of helpless residents who are at the mercy of land-grabbers. Comrade Martins made this call on Wednesday during the celebration of International Workers' Day in Ibadan, Nigeria. ''The Oyo state Governor should save the people of Oyo state from land grabbers. The Chairperson of the Oyo state Anti Corruption Agency(OYACA), Justice Eni Esan(rtd.) has revealed that the delay in the approval of building plans in the state revolved around the desire to extort money from applicants by public servants. Justice   Esan made this revelation on Wednesday at  a one day Sensitization and Advocacy program for senior officials of local governments in the state in Ibadan. ''The approval of building plans are delayed to extort applicants. It is corruption not to prepare and audit accounts for several years. The Oyo state Government has been advised to ensure that its intervention in the present hardships and difficulties confronting Nigerians cuts across all social, political, economic and religious divides. This advice was handed down on Wednesday by a former councilor of the Ibadan South East Local Government council, Honorable Tunde Yusuf. Traders of Igbo extraction in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria have made a Save Our Soul Appeal(SOS) to the national leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide to rescue them from the claws of the state government officials and multiple fees. The traders who made the SOS on Friday, located in different parts of the state, opted to speak incognito to avoid victimization. ''The entire leadership of Igbos in Oyo state have failed us, they have been silent all this while. Business owners in Ibadan Oyo state, Nigeria have appealed to the state government to rescue them from the unabating extortion by its agents. This appeal was made on behalf of the business owners through their spokesperson, Mr. Paul Ikechukwu Okoli. ''Things are very hard. We are not making sales, there is no money. The officials of Ibadan South West Local Government came to our shop two weeks ago demanding payment of 10,000 Naira for selling beer. For the past two years, they did not show up, we used to pay 1,500 Naira. But suddenly, yesterday they came and forcefully collected 10, 000 Naira after collecting our plates. I and my wife Ogechi, were shocked. The Oyo state government should save us from these local government officials and their agents,'' Mr. Okoli stated.

Nigerian youths have been called upon to learn a skill as a step towards becoming assets to society. This call was made on Saturday by Miss Aminatu Aderayo Animasahun of Derayo Vocational Limited at an event in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. ''Nigerian youths should not be distracted by hard drugs, lawlessness and criminality, they should learn a skill so that they will become assets to society, rather than liabilities.

Democracy is not in place at the Local Government Level in Nigeria. This assertion was made by a former Councillor in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo state, Honorbale Yusuf Babatunde. ''Although elections are conducted by the local governments in Oyo state, those who are there now got to the positions by selection. This is a bad approach. The state governments in the affected states have now taken over the sources of revenue of the local governments, including their functions. The chairmen and councillors receive only salaries. They are now expressing regrets. The local governments are no longer empowered financially as, as a result, they have been crippled. It is a one-man show,'' Hon. Babatunde lamented.

Parents and Guardians in Oyo state have been advised to monitor their children and wards. This call was made during the weekend by an Old student of Ibadan Gramar School(IGS), Mr. Adebolu Okikiolu. Running for and winning an office as a governor is an accomplishment to be proud of. More importantly, Nigeria’s democratic political sphere, for the first time in history, gave the mandate to the people, through BVAS and INEC Servers, to perfect our voting exercise to have more credible or so reliable results to produce credible leaders in the government of the next political dispensation. Generally, access to a safe drinking water facility is recognized as a basic human need and a pre- condition for economic and social development. Water is fundamental not only for survival but Also, safe drinking water carries significant health benefits. In Oyo State, efforts to improve drinking water facilities have been insufficient and off track. Lack of proper drinking water, ingestion of unsafe water and inadequate availability of water for Hygiene has exposed many people in Oyo State to various waterborne diseases due to inability of the state government to provide proper water treatment.
