Nature's Intervention

Members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) are patiently waiting for the end to the prolonged crisis in the association's leadership ranks. The crisis that has persisted for so long revolves around self-interest and greed. Indeed, members and others from different unions in Nigeria look up to the National Industrial Court (NIC) to put the crisis to a permanent end. The convener of the Federal Workers Forum (FWF) and the All Workers Convergence (AWC), Comrade Andrew Emeleze, urges workers in the country to be peaceful in their conduct. ''Our hope lies in the judiciary; members should be patient and go about their lawful duties with diligence. We are full of hopes that the judiciary will bring an end to the lingering impunity and corruption in the ASCSN. Let us be patient.''Comrade Emeleize stated.

The judiciary, without doubt, will serve as a reprieve for distraught and disillushioned members, even though one of the parties to the crisis may have continued to work tirelessly to pervert justice. Sadly, those responsible for the leadership failure, at all levels of government, may perhaps be the role models for the individuals who have brought about the prostrate condition of the labor movement in the country. Millions of Nigerians are not only disappointed by the happenings in different parts of the country, but angry that their fellow human beings have continued to take them for granted with impunity. Those in charge have exhausted all their available tools of repression, oppression, lies, deceit, manipulation, coercion, and violence. Nature has set in to correct the infractions, acts of commission, and omission.

Disobedience of the Industrial Court's Judgment Lawless and an act of Indiscipline-Comrade Emelieze

The disobedience of the National Industrial Court's(NIC) judgment reinstating Comrade Bola Audu as the president of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeri9a(ASCSN) by men and offices of the Nigeria Police Force is a reflection of the lawlessness and indiscipline pervading the Nigerian society. This assertion was made on Thursday by the former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''Some known persons are making use of the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force to encourage lawlessness and indiscipline. There is an NIC judgment reinstating Comrade Bola Audu as the President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, but these persons in connivance and conspiracy with the police denied the reinstated president access into the union's secretariat in Abuja, despite the fact that the industrial court's judgment was presented. This is a fall out of the lawlessness and indiscipline that is the trend everywhere in Nigeria today. The police are supposed to protect the lives and properties of innocent citizens, but unfortunately, this is not the case,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.

Carry out Transformational Reforms-Comrade Emelize to ASCSN reinstated President

Members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN) have called on the National Industrial Court(NIC) reinstated President, Comrade Bola Audu, to embark on transformational reforms to salvage distraught members of the association.

This call was made by a former chairman of the ASCSN in Oyo state, who is also a former chairman of the Trade Union Congress(TUC) in the state, Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''We call on the reinstated president of the association to go on and carry out reforms that will transform the association to meet the needs of the suffering members of the association. It is a thing of joy that justice has been served and illegality has been shown the way out of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, '' Comrade Emelieze stated.

Remain Calm and Law Abiding-Comrade Emelieze to ASCSN members

 

Members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN) in tjhe Ministries Departments and Agencies have been called upon to remain calm and law-abiding.

This call was made by the former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''Ever since the delay in the delivery of the judgment on the ASCSN leadership crisis matter before the National Industrial Court, members of the association have remained disturbed and worried. However, they should remain ca;lm and law-abiding as we await the decision of the court. The Judiciary still remains the last hope of ordinary Nigerians,'' Comrade Emelieze noted.

A moderate standard of learning must include the ability of a child to be able to spell ordinary words, correctly to write legibly and intelligently, to make out or check a common bill, to have sufficient geographical knowledge to know the position of the countries of the world and, above all, to be sufficiently acquainted with the Scriptures.

 

Case against Labor Leader sponsored-Comrade Emelieze

 

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been berated for hurriedly charging a case against the embattled President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) to court.

According to a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze, ''As concerned members of the union, we are surprised to hear of the charges (CR/738/2023) brought against Comrade Bola Innocent Audu in court by your agency. Sir, the issues in question are foremost, matters of industrial relations which, ordinarily, are supposed to be handled by the National Industrial Court. Moreso, the national Industrial Court is already handling issues of the crisis rocking the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN). Sir, we believe that these charges against Comrade Bola are sponsored. ICPC is called upon to assert its independence and ensure that they are not dragged into the mud by people of questionable character, Comrade Emelieze stated.

Life has become Unbearable for Nigerians-Labor Leader

Life has become unbearable for millions of Nigerians as a result of government-induced hardships and difficulties. This assertion was made by the deputy chairperson of the Association of Senior Civil Servants(ASCSN), Comrade(Mrs) Tayo Adebanjo-Adesida. ''Life has become unbearable for Nigerians due to the removal of the petrol subsidy and other policies of the government. This removal without consulting stakeholders is a big mistake,'' Comrae Adebanjo-Adeisda stated. Similarly, a former chairman of the University College Hospital(UCH)Ibadan branch and the Oyo state council of the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Comrade Olusegun Sotiloye has blamed the disturbing situation across the country on the long silence of the government. ''The government has been silent for too long, and this has made the situation degenerate. As things stand now, there is no hope. Patients are finding it extremely difficult to visit the hospital due to the high cost of petrol. The volume of patients has reduced drastically. It is a tough period for everybody and the increase in salaries is a drop in the ocean, '' Comrade Sotiloye noted.

Human Trafficking-Former Oyo TUC chairman Hails Judgment Vindicating Embattled ASCSN President of Human Trafficking

A former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze has hailed the High Court judgment that vindicated the embattled president of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN), Bola Audu for human trafficking. Comrade Emelieze gave the commendation in a statement. ''The Judiciary remains the last resort of the common Nigerian. The high court's judgment has vindicated Bola Audu of human trafficking. This is a welcome development. After over two years of trial, the court has finally declared that Comrade Bola Innocent Audu is truly innocent in the alleged case of human trafficking . Comrade Bola Audu, a staff of the Accountant General of the Federation, and also the National President of the Association of Senior Civil servants of Nigeria, (ASCSN), who also doubles as the National Vice President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) was arraigned alongside three other civil servants for human trafficking. We are full of joy to hear of the victory of Bola Audu,'' Comrade Emelieze concluded.

Motivate the Workforce-NASU UCH Chairman to Govt

The Federal Government has been charged with motivating its workforce as a step towards ensuring high productivity. This charge was given on Monday by the Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions(NASU),University College Hospital(UCH)branch, Ibadan, Comrade Kehinde Abiona. ''The Federal Government should do the needful when it comes to the motivation of its workforce. The government should also make the work environment conducive. But sadly, gardeners still make provisions for provisions, cutlasses them, they buy it themselves. Medical laboratory staff make do with outdated equipment, the same goes for those in accounts, who still apply old methods,,'' Comrade Abiona stated. He advised members of the union to be contented with their present situation, saying, '' take things easy, don't expect too much, accept what life brings to you and make do with what nature allows you to achieve in life''. Comrade Abiona appealed to the Federal Government to wake up to its responsibilities, adding,'' we were assured that we would receive the new hazard allowance in January 2022. That is September. We have yet to receive it, we have continued to borrow to sustain our families.'' Similarly, members of NASU at the University of Ibadan have condemned the decision of the Federal Government not to pay them for the period that they were on strike. They made this position known through their chairman, Comrade Malachy Etim. ''Despite the fact that we fulfilled all the processes before proceeding on strike and despite the fact that we have called off the strike and have since resumed work, the Federal Government is still insisting that it would implement the No Work No Pay rule. This is condemnable. The government is still holding on to our salaries. This is inhuman and insensitive.'' In the same vein, a former Vice President of the Senior Staff Association of Universities(SSANU), Western zone, Comrade Alfred Jimoh advised the government to desist from inducing strike actions, saying, ''human beings are not made for law, law is made for human beings. The Federal Government should apply the law with a human face. Even though we have called off the strike, the government is still holding on to our salaries. How does the government want us to continue working when there is no money?'' In a related development, members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN) have again called on law enforcement agencies to put an end to the cases of corruption going on in the union. The concerned members lamented,''we bring to your notice some of the challenges confronting us. Deductions have been made from our salaries by our union and there is nothing to show for it. The rising high cost of living and inflation that we are experiencing in Nigeria HAS NOT HELPED MATTERS. It has been extremely very difficult for us to make ends meet and, as such, workers have gone borrowing. Kindly look into the account of ASCSN.''

ASCSN's Accounts Should be Scrutinized-Concerned Members

Members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria in Oyo state have called on relevant authorities to look into the financial records of the association. The members made this call in a press statement. ''We have reported their conduct to the Inspector General of Police who has promptly directed investigations by FCID, Alagbon Lagos on the matter.The fact of the matter is that, Mr. Alade Bashir Lawal and his partners were reported to the police for suspected fraud of monumental proportion and mismanagement of the union’s finance and resources. On the basis of the complaint the Inspector General of Police directed the Force CID to investigate the criminal allegations and the petition by the union’s President, Comrade Innocent Bola-Audu.The Commissioner of Police Lagos was also directed by the IGP to provide security in the Secretariat to ensure no breakdown of law and order, and in order to prevent the suspects in the case from tampering with evidence materials that may be needed in police investigations. The Union is bleeding and needs immediate resuscitation to survive, because a massive damage has been done to its resources, assets and manpower.Therefore, there is work to be done. As, you may already be aware that some arrests were made in the Union by Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police, Alagbon Lagos on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police on Thursday August 4, 2022,'' the statement concluded.

Graft-EFCC and Others should Prosecute Indicted Labor Leaders-Ex-Officio TUC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other anti-graft agencies have been called upon to prosecute some labor leaders who have cases to answer. This call was made by an Ex-Officio of the Oyo state Council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), who is also a former chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The EFCC, ICPC and other anti-corruption agencies should prosecute some labor leaders, such as those of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria for corruption, since the cases have been reported to them. There is massive corruption in these unions; they deduct outrageous amounts as check off dues from workers' salaries and there is nothing to show for it. All those who were invited, detained and released should be charged in court. So many workers have promotion arrears of between 6 months and three years, they have not been paid and these unions are doing nothing about this. The EFCC AND others should make their findings public and charge the cases to court. These cases should not be swept under the carpet,'' Comrade Emelize warned.

Hearing in Suit Against ASCSN Sec Gen and two others begins Wednesday

Hearing of the suit between Andrew Emelieze and 5 others Vs Alade Bashir and two others begins on Wednesday 8 June 2022 at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria(NICN) Abuja Division(Court 1). The case with suit No. NICN/ABJ/69/2022 is before the President of the NICN, Hon. Justice B.B Kanyip, PhD FNIALS. Prior to the enactment of the Constitution (third alteration) Act, 2010, National Industrial Court was established by the Trade Dispute Decree, 1976, where matters relating to labour, trade union dispute, employment, conditions of service, welfare of employees were adjudicated upon. The court is empowered to adjudicate trade disputes, labour practices, matters related to the Factories Act, Trade Disputes Act, Trade Unions Act, Workmen's Compensations Act and appeals from the Industrial Arbitration Panel.

Oyo ASCSN Resolve to elect Charismatic and Visionary Leadership

Concerned members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN)(Federal) Oyo state chapter have resolved to collectively work for the emergence of a charismatic leader that is driven by passion. This resolution was reached at a congress held on Monday at the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan, Nigeria. The concerned members expressed disappointment over the stagnant state of affairs of the union in the state, blaming it on the docile and self-centered personalities who constitute the executive.

''We have resolved to work for the election of charismatic and visonray executives who are driven by passion. In the space of just four years, the union is dead in Oyo state. This is sad. The executives are docile. We are ready to join hands together to reverse this ugly trend. The outgoing executives have betrayed our common cause. Nothing has happened that has made workers proud of the union in the last four years. We shall look elsewhere for people who can champion our cause,'' the members concluded. Half Salaries in Ondo shall have a bandwagon Effect-Ex-Officio TUC

 The percentage payment of salaries to workers by the Ondo State Government shall have a bandwagon effect if it continues.

This assertion was made by an Ex-Officio of the Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), who is also a former chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Andrew Emelieze.

''The situation in Ondo state is very dangerous and it could have a bandwagon effect if allowed to fester. Workers are now left to the mercy of the Government suggesting that labor unions are asleep or no longer exist'', Comrade Emelieze stated.

We Shall Vote Out Corrupt Politicians in 2019-Oyo Workers

Nigerians workers  have been called upon to vote out corrupt and anti-people political office holders in the 2019 general elections.

This call was made by the Chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the  Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria(ASCSN), Comrade Babatunde Balogun, at a News Conference in Ibadan, Nigeria.

''We will use the 2019 general elections to turn this dismal record around, by voting out the corrupt and anti-masses government in Nigeria at all levels to have a government of our own. Our stand on this is that the nation's expensive Democracy, natural, human and hard earned resources is only serving the interest of the ruling elite who are less than five percent of Nigeria's population, this has placed the plight of the working class and the masses in general on deaf ears.''

Comrade Balogun lamented that those who could afford to spend money were now in control of governance in the country, saying'' the commercialization of nomination forms at the huge amount to aspirants, aspiring to serve the people by political parties is also an indication that our Democracy or ruler ship in Nigeria is for the highest bidder who in return will be coming into office to recover his investment through profit maximization.''

''This ugly situation with the nation's political system means that the political space would be monopolized by only the big boys in the business of looting, who rather than come into office to meet the constitutional social contract of providing basic amenities, pay its workforce handsomely and protect life and property of the electorate, will use the office to accumulate wealth, deny the people of their rights and further plunge the nation into a deeper state of hopelessness.''
