Leadership in a Bad Situation

Image
Leadership also involves taking reponsibility in a bad and hopeless situation. Ezra 9 Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. 2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. 3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied. 4 Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evenin...

Workers should have unhindered access to all their funds in PFAs on retirement-Labor Leader

Image
The Federal Government has been called upon to carry out a review of the laws on the contributory pensions scheme in favor of workers. This call was made by the chairman of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria(MHWUN), University College Hospital(UCH) branch, Ibadan, Nigeria, Comrade Simeon Ibekwe. ''Talking about the opposition to the contributory pension scheme, the perspective has to do with the fact that workers can only access a certain percentage of their funds while the other percentage remains with the Pension Funds Administrators(PFA). They don't have to dictate to us how we will use our money. I wish the government would review the law and set it aside. Once workers retire, they should collect all their money,'' Comrade Ibekwe stated. Similarly, the chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) UCH branch, Comrade Kerhinde Abiona has advised workers to change their PFAs if they discover that their service delivery i...

Living with Evil

Image
The evil deeds of some state governors are limiting factors when it involves interface with law enforcement agencies, as their heads visit the states. Interaction is preferably by representation because a lot is still hidden, that is gradually coming to light. Indeed, the evil that men do lives with them and has become their shadows. No responsible law-abiding and right-thinking Nigerian will subscribe to calls by some individuals to cooperate with criminals. Perhaps

Government Palliatives are a Mockery of Nigerians-Comrade Emelieze

Image
The economic support announced by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of the hunger and poverty in Nigeria has been described as a mockery of Nigerians. According to a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze, '' the fact remains that millions of Nigerians are not in support of any form of palliatives.'' ''The government is using palliatives to deceive and make mockery of Nigerians. The palliatives that have been announced by the government are insignificant compared with a country where millions of the population live in abject poverty. The government seems to be promoting wickedness, heartlessness and insensitivity. If they think that this is what Nigerians are worth, then Nigerians should not expect anything good from the government.'' The Police is not a Secret Society It is a known fact that the Police is not a secret society, but when it selects journalists that will cover its ...

Watch out for the Deceitful

Image
Watch out for those who rely on deceit for survival, they are everywhere. Matthew 23 1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. 8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called mast...

Dormant LGs may Mar Distribution of Palliatives-NASU warns

Image
The successful distribution of economic support to poor Nigerians may be marred by the dormant status of the Local Government system in many states in the country. This assertion was made by the chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) University Coellge Hospital(UCH) branch, Ibadan, Nigeria, Comarade Kehinde Abiona. ''Go to so many Local Government councils, they hardly have money to clear their bushy environment, talkless of money to renovate bad roads. The Ministry of local governments and chieftaincy affairs now think about local governments. The distribution of palliatives is supposed to be handled by the local governments, not the state governors. But what you have now is that the state governors will buy and distribute them from household to household. Let the local governments be in charge of distribution, not the other way round. Let the governors hand over the responsibilities to the local governments to distribute. A decentralized s...

Believing

Image
God's blessing will always come upon those who believe His words without questioning. Your faith goes beyond the ordinary human perception. Acts 12 : 1-11 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Pet...

Image
The Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) has accused some members of the management team of University College Hospital of deliberately facilitating the postponement of the union's elections. The NASU made this accusation through its chairman Comrade Kehinde Abiona. ''Some elements in the management of the hospital had a hand in the postponement of the union's elections. We were supposed to have the delegates/departmental election on Wednesday 2nd August and the major elections on Thursday 3rd August, but the Chief Security Officer of the hospital met me and told me that the management had decided to put the elections on hold. Comrade Abiona picked holes in the letter written to the union by the management saying''there are a number of actions that have been taken without the knowledge of the Chief Medical Director.'' ''Heads of Departments do not have any role to play in the election of delegates in the departments. T...

The Power in God's Word

Image
The word of God has tremendous power to change the direction of the lives of millions of people. Be consistent in praying and sharing the gospel with others. God's word saves. 1 Corinthians 1 : 17-31 17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingb...

The Number of Nigerians infected with Haemophilia is Unknown-Prof. of Haemotology

Image
The population of Nigerians infected with Haemophilia is not known. This assertion was made on Monday by a Professor of Haemotlogy and Consultant Haemotologist, University of Benin(UNIBEN) and University of Benin Teaching Hospital(UBTH), Benin, Edo state, Prof. Omolade Awodu at the valedictory lecture for Prof. Wuraola Adebola Sokunbi./ ''The population of Nigerians with haemophilia is not yet known. Haemophilia is not the disease of the white. 93 per cent of Nigerians infected are not diagnosed. That we do not know the number of Nigerians infected with the disease shows that very few men and women are interested in the disease. We have inadequate knowledge. We are still very ignorant of the disease in Nigeria. With 93 per cent of patients undiagnosed in Nigeria, the reality is that many of them will die young. There should be proper diagnosis and management,'' Prof. Awodu stated.
