Our God enriches us with His grace

Image
Our God enriches us with His grace, demands some work from us, and ensures that no harm befalls us as His willing subjects. Our God of all time, all places, and all people moves ahead of tradition and popular expectations. Read Isaiah 45:1-7 The Local Scene- Muhammadu Marwa Maitatsine was from Jappai village in Northern Cameroon. Maitatsine, a Mufu by tribe, became a Muslim in 1940. The tradition of the ethnic group revolved around human sacrifice and superstition. Maitatsine's followers, then, were young people, initiated into the group through the consumption of hypnotized concoctions. This brought in its wake violent crimes, an aberration to all right-thinking mortals. Sadly, the disturbing trend and source of inspiration of these criminals emanate from the heavy reliance of the leadership at the different levels of government on outlawed substances, in desperate attempts to hold on to political power. Very disturbing.

Organ Harvesting and Related Crimes

Image
Organ harvesting is now a common place in different parts of Nigeria, just as kidnappings and ritual killings. Sadly,  this ugly development continues unabated with the active involvement of some of those in the health, law enforcement professions and government circles.  Indeed, the hunger and poverty in the land and the insensitive  nature, attitude and behavior of the government has forced  a number of Nigerians to look for organ harvesting, kidnappings and ritual killings as certain means to various ends. This is disturbing.

Our God Forgives

Image
God our creator   is honored and worshiped because He alone  can clear our record. God offers  forgiveness for all our sins when we ask for it. Psalm 130 (A Song of degrees.) Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. 2 Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. 3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? 4 But  there is  forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. 6 My soul  waiteth  for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning:  I say, more than  they that watch for the morning. 7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD  there is  mercy, and with him  is  plenteous redemption. 8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Revive Moribund Health Facilities-NASU to Fed. Ministry of Health

Image
The Minister of Health has been advised  to ensure the renovation and rehabilitation of obsolete and moribund health facilities in government-owned hospitals  across the country. This advice was given by a member of the National Executive Council(NEC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU), who doubles as the  branch chairman of the union at the  University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria, Comrade Kehinde Abiona. ''The Minister of Health needs to look inwards and ensure that the moribund facilities that are the health sector are revived. Since the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration carried out the only major facility upgrade  in 2005, nothing has been done by successive administrations. It is almost about two decades since the major overhaul has been done.'' Comrade Abiona also called on the Minister to ignore  the agitation for the privatization  of government-owned hospitals saying, ''such agitati...

Foisting the Unpopular on the People

Image
Indigenes and residents of Kano state in Nigeria are very conversant with their choice of leadership and are not only bothered by the turn of events, but are also interested in knowing if DEMOCRACY is still on course.    Any leadership that manipulates the people's choice will, in due course, take in more than it can chew.  Indeed, foisting unpopular choices on the people could result in undemocratic acts of omission and commission.

We are Ready for Indefinite Strike-Federal Workers

Image
Workers in the Federal civil service and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies have expressed their readiness to proceed on an indefinite strike should the Federal Government refuse to accede to the demands of the Nigeria Labor Congress. The workers made this position known in a Press Release titled, FEDERAL WORKERS ARE READY FOR THE INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION AND TOTAL SHUT DOWN. WORKERS HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH and signed by the National coordinator of the Federal Workers Forum(FWF_ and former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. Once again, federal government workers are ready for the indefinite strike action and we are looking onto the NLC/TUC to rescue the Nigerian people from this untold hardship. However, if the NLC tarry further, the Federal Workers Forum will not hesitate to call all our members nationwide to perpetual protest. ''Our demand is simply a fair wage. Our government must stop acting as if they don...

Before it is too late

Image
The use of alcohol, illicit substances and hard drugs by students and youths has reached an all-time high in different parts of Nigeria. It has in fact become a social problem and menace. Indeed, in states where Those-in-Charge generate revenue from illegal structures, illicit substances and alcohol are sold in makeshift kiosks along the road, under bridges and motorparks. The insinuation is that the cream in society may be benefitting from the sales. That is why it goes unabated. These hard drugs have negatively affected the behavior and appearance of students and youths. Of worry are the grievous and heinous crimes that are committed on a daily basis under the influence of alcohol and hard drugs. It is high time the government at all levels take decisive steps to salvage those affected before it is too late because it has started having adverse effects on the socio-economic fortunes of the giant of Africa.

God as your Guide

Image
Let God be your guide in all you do, so that you will not be led astray. Proverbs 3 : 1-12 1My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12For whom the LORD loveth h...
