Become a Positive Influence by your Good Deeds

Image
1 Timothy 4 : 12-16 Regardless of your age or how insignificant you are, you can be a positive influence for the Lord. 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

''Our union and the resident doctors have common demands, we are yet to be paid hazard allowance and there is a need to improve health services. However, I would urge our members to remain calm and we should continue to work with management to ensure that our members do not suffer. I can only advise my members to remain calm, calculative and composed, '' Comrade Abiona stated. The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors(NARD) had given the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to meet its demands or it would proceed on an indefinite strike.

Learning from Gen. Manuel Noriega

Image
Panama came into being in 9103 as a breakaway province of Colombia. General Manuel Noriega became the country's leader after Brigadier Omar Torrijos was taken out in controversial circumstances that were trailed by conspiracy theories. Leadership at that point in Panama's history revolved around subversion of the opposition, blackmail and intimidation of the electorate and rigging of elections. However, most countries of the world have since realized, understood and keyed into technical skills and competences as credible and reliable methods to build and sustain leadership and other positions at different levels of government. Sadly, leadership examples in Nigeria suggest that Gen. Noriega is a role model. Knowledge and experience have proven to be among the crucial indices to economic and political development of any nation. In Gen. Noreiga's time, Panama was a vast criminal empire where lawlessness, crime, all forms of criminality and evil reigned supreme. Several coun...

Remaining Defendants Convicted In Conspiracy To Kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Image
GRAND RAPIDS – A federal jury today(Tuesday) convicted two men charged in connection with a conspiracy to kidnap the Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer. Adam Fox, of Wyoming, Michigan, and Barry Croft Jr., of Bear, Delaware, were found guilty of conspiracy to kidnap the governor and conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction against persons or property. Croft was additionally convicted of knowingly possessing an unregistered destructive device, specifically an improvised explosive wrapped in pennies for shrapnel. According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Fox and Croft intended to kidnap Governor Whitmer from her vacation cottage near Elk Rapids, Michigan and use the destructive devices to facilitate their plot by harming and hindering the governor’s security detail and any responding law enforcement officers. “Today’s verdict confirms this plot was very real and very dangerous,” said former U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge for the W...

Repositioning Women for Leadership Positions by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Image
Religious leaders must avoid scriptural misinformation and misinterpretation, most especially in the areas that discriminate, marginalize and hurt womanhood. Avoid painting the girl child as half a male counterpart as well as avoid Female Genital Mutilation(FGM). Develop the mental capacity of the girl child on par with their female counterparts. Female children should be allowed to choose a career of their choice based on their God-given talents. forms. Avoid minor weddings and other forms of abuse against the girl child. Every male orientation must change from perceiving women as objects of sex. The focus must be on gender equity to avoid partriachal domination through such a policy that will allow women effective participation in all spheres of life. Women must take the chance to lead and not live at the mercy of men(malevolence)but believe in themselves to achieve any feat. The Holy Quran states that they must not tread a path of being suspicious of promiscuity and they must be ab...

God shall Enable you

The Lord has made effective leaders and teachers of people who never envisaged that they would, ouucpy leadership positions. Judges 6: 1-6 6 The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord gave them into the hand of lMidian seven years. 2 And the hand of Midian overpowered Israel, and because of Midian the people of Israel made for themselves the dens that are in the mountains and mthe caves and the strongholds. 3 For whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites and nthe Amalekites and othe people of the East would come up against them. 4 They would encamp against them pand devour the produce of the land, as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel and no sheep or ox or donkey. 5 For they would come up with their livestock and their tents; they would come qlike locusts in number—both they and their camels could not be counted—so that they laid waste the land as they came in. 6 And Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the peop...

For Justice and Equity South East ought to produce the next President by Eze(Dr.)Alex Anozie

Image
Everybody should do the right thing. First of all, every Nigerian of voting age should register and collect the Permanent Voters Card(PVC) and be ready to vote in the next elections. I have said it before, and I am still saying it again, if I have my way, it should be made compulsory for every Nigerian, 18 and above, to register and collect their PVCs and afterwards vote and show evidence they voted in elections before they can carry transactions in banks and gain admissions into schools. But when you don't have PVCS, you may not be allowed access to privileges you ought to have access to as an eligible citizen. This would encourage citizens to participate in our Democratic process actively, and it would make Nigerians take elections seriously. Our democracy would now have a positive outlook which would result in the emergence of competent and capable leaders. The lack of interest in elections and voter apathy would now be a thing of the past. In addition, the Government to e...

Unwholesome Practices in the Administration of Criminal Justice

Image
The administration of criminal justice is the motivation for democracy to thrive in several countries of the world. However, in most states of Nigeria, the administration of justice seems to have been discarded as a result of the sharp practices by lawyers, Magistrates, Judges, those in the customary court and the entire support staff in the Judiciary. Frivolous suits by litigants with the full consent of their counsels in addition to forum shopping is now the trend. Indeed, it is worrisome to note that judgments are now for sale while Those-in-Power have taken advantage of this defect to manipulate the justice system, taking over landed properities of an unspecified number of helpless Nigerians. Without doubt the Judiciary and the legal profession urgently reuqire self-assessment and self-cleansing. Those in the Judiciary ought to stop engaging in unwholesome practices, just as efforts must be geared towards ridding the legal profession of bad eggs, in order to restore public...

On March 16, 2020, Masood’s travel plans changed because Jordan closed its borders to incoming travel due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Masood ...

Insecurity and High cost of Agric inputs have driven Farmers out of Business-Ex-Chairman Oyo DOCAN

Image
An unspecified number of farmers have been forced out of business by the unending insecurity and prohibitive costs of agricultural inputs in Nigeria. This assertion was made by the immediate past chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the Day old Chicks Association of Nigeria(DOCAN), Alhaji Asimiyu Oyetunde. ''The insecurity in different parts of the country has forced several farmers out of business, they have abandoned their farms. In addition, most of the inputs such as maize and soya beans are very expensive. Prices keep increasing on a daily basis. The poultry industry is worse hit as banks are not ready to give us loans,'' Alhaji Oyetunde. He posited that once the safety of lives and property can be guaranteed, activities in the agriculture sector should come back to life, while appealing to the government to tackle the security challenges decisively.

Insecurity-Identify Trouble makers in Communities-Oyo NUT Chairman

Image
Nigerians have been advised to identify criminals in their communities as a crucial step towards addressing the unending insecurity in the land. This advice was given on Thursday by the chairman of the Oyo state council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT), Comrade Raji Oladimeji in a chat at the union's state secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. ''The spate of insecurity in different parts of the country is alarming. We have to go back to the drawing board. That is why we have to appeal to the parents forum to rejig the security apparatus in our various communities. Schools are located within communities. Let us identify those who constitute a nuisance within the community. Let us also be our brother's keeper,'' Comrade Oladimeji stated. The chairman vowed to pursue the advancement of the welfare of union members to a logical conclusion, saying, ''believe in your leaders, our constant discussion and engagement with the Government is yielding re...

The Potency of Prayers

Image
Consistent prayers and supplications move mountains. Matthew 26 : 36-46 36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he...

Condition of Primary Health Care (PHC) Delivery in Oyo State

Image
Note: The provision of health care at PHC level is largely the responsibility of local governments with the support of state ministries of health and within the overall national health policy (Nigeria Constitution, 1999). Quality health is a fundamental right of all citizens. Primary health care (PHC) which is the first level of contact for individuals, the family, and the community to address the main health problems in the community, providing health promotion, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services , are not available to all local governments in Oyo State. Many people in Oyo State are at risk of falling into poverty due to out-of-pocket health spending. of more of their household budget. Primary health care, which is supposed to be the bedrock of the state and health care policy is currently catering to a small number of potential patients. While most PHC facilities are in various states of disrepair, with equipment and infrastructure being either absent or obsolete, the...

Walk The Talk on PWDs by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Image
The government at all levels and people must not waste or bury talents, most especially Persons With Disabilities(PWD). Let us enact anti-discrimination and other disability-specific laws. All stakeholders must get organized on this-governments, parents, international donors, the media, the JONAPWD, Human Rights Groups, philanthropists, among others. It is only through appropriate policy stands that we can raise the hope of the hopeless, mitigate the cause of disabilities and prevent causative factors from increasing the fold of PWDs. Nigeria needs to implement all international instruments to which it is a signatory, on the issue of having due respect for the fundamental human rights of the people. For example, women's rights through the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women(CEDAW), Child Rights and Inclusion Rights of the PWDs through appropriate domestication for ease of local adaptation. We have to walk the talk of the challenges confronti...

The Quality of personnel and Insecurity

Image
A large number of law enforcement and security personnel have for long ignored their primary duites and rather become involved wioth happenings in the political sphere in Nigeria. The motivating factor revolves around money, influence and greed, even though the authorities are fully aware of this unfortunate development. Indeed, the chequered mindset of these set of professionals in uniform has resulted in a major set back in the unending battle to put a stop to insecurity in the land. Sadly, over the years, nepotism, favoritism and mediocrity have ensured that unqualified persons infiltrate the law enforcement and security servcies. This is reflected in the avoidable acts of commission and ommission in countless number of engagments whioch have defied all known procedures oif professional practice. Note- The non-state actors at the center of violnet crimes in Nigeria today are all products of those who are obssessed with power. Those-in-Power ought to have a recipe to end the crime...

The Stakeholders for A Secured Future by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Image
The government and every proprietor must invest heavily in the functional education of our children despite the current trend of development that dwells on global competitiveness and global best practices through such orientation, which will give learners and graduates of every school a wider view of the world where peace and development will dominate a purposeful educational goal. To be able to achieve the above-mentioned updates, facility updates and security issues must be pursued with high assurance of a safe environment for the teachers and the children, including the young. It is sacrosanct to the provision of a conducive environment for learning through adequate funding, total quality assurance and standard attainment. Policy designs on these must be implemented now for a better Nigeria. The stakeholders including parents, government at all levels, schools, students, alumni associations, the media and others must walk the talk on the education enhancement needs without any dela...

Unsustainable safe drinking water projects in Oyo State by Dr. Raymond Adegboyega

Image
Generally, access to a safe drinking water facility is recognized as a basic human need and a pre- condition for economic and social development. Water is fundamental not only for survival but Also, safe drinking water carries significant health benefits. In Oyo State, efforts to improve drinking water facilities have been insufficient and off track. Lack of proper drinking water, ingestion of unsafe water and inadequate availability of water for Hygiene has exposed many people in Oyo State to various waterborne diseases due to inability of the state government to provide proper water treatment. Taking cognizance of the huge amount of state money expended on water projects, the quality of a few liters of water (if there is any) from water points in Oyo State is not reliably safe for direct human consumption. The water pipe projects have failed in Oyo State. The projects are just subterfuge and avenues of siphoning the meager funds of the state. The majority, if not all, water pipe ...

God's Armor

Image
To put off evil, put on God's Armor 1 Peter 5 : 6-14 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. 13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. 14 Greet ye one another with a kis...

Justice and Righteousness

Image
Joshua 20 The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying, 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: 3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. 5 And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime. 6 And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unt...

Persons with Disabilities (PWD) : The need for participation in Development by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Image
Disability is yet to be seen as a developmental issue in Nigeria because it is grossly under-represented in legislative processes and outcomes. Instead, it has become a political weapon of campaign driven by social sympathy rather than empathy in our institutional arranegments. The Joint National Associations of Persons with Disabilities(JONAPWD) with many advocayc groups under it has been equally influenced by the usual charity/welfare model approach to disability. There is a need for all to develop a cultural oreintation of creating a world where the fundamental human rights of persons with disabilities including that of access is guranteed under the law and the need to create awareness on the promotion of creativity for PWDs to strenghten the voice of Persons With Disabilities through advocacy, capacity building and development networking. This will facitiliate their participation in the political process of the nation. Records show that some of the PWDs have been actively part...

The Infrastructure Legacies

Image
Infrastructure development is key to the potential economic development of Nigeria. This has been proven by advanced countries of the world. However, Those-in-Power at all levels of government hide under the guise of promoting infrastructure development to embark on activities that are very far from transparency and accountability. Of worry, is the fact that it is doubtful if there exists any legal and regulatory framework for the financing of infrastructure projects at all levels. Indeed, the quality of infrastructure in different parts of the country expresses the absence of satisfactory processes of monitoring and evaluation. Of course, the scary infrastructure deficit is a major source of discomfort for Those-in-Power. It ought not to be their legacy.Perhaps. Indeed, policy documents highlighting, most of the time, the infrastructure expansion, inter-sectoral integration and environmentally friendly conditions, if in place, may contribute positively to the attraction of urgentl...

Insecurity-Cultism is new in Oyo state-NRM Governorship Candidate

Image
The lapses in the government over several years at all levels have emboldened cultists and other categories of criminals to persist in their stock-in-trade in several communities in Oyo state. The covert support by the political class across party lines has not helped matters. Residents have for long been having sleepless nights, while those-in-power are still reluctant to take decisive steps to put an end to lawlessness, crime, all forms of criminality and evil. Dr. Raymond Adegboyega an indigene of Ile-Oluwo, Odo-Osun, Ibadan, holds a doctorate degree in Finance and is the Governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement(NRM) in the state. In this interview, the finance analyst and lecturer opines that cultism is new in the state and, as a result of certain factors, it persists. Excerpts : The activities of cultists and other categories of criminals have continued unabated in several communities in Oyo state. The State House of Assembly has not helped matters by not coming ...

Insecurity-Report Suspicious Activities Around you-NASU UCH Chairman to Members

Image
Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions(NASU) have been called upon to be security conscious and report suspicious activities promptly. This call was made by the chairman of the union in the University College Hospital(UCH)branch Ibadan, Nigeria, Comrade Kehinde Abiona. ''Information is key to all we do. We must be our brother's keeper. I call on all NASU members and Nigerians to be security conscious and report all suspicious activities around them in good time. We always sensitize and educate our members on basic security measures, Comrade Abiona disclosed. He appealed to the hospital's management and government to speedily facilitate the implementation of all that is due to the workers. ''Many of the negotiated terms of contracts should be respected. The issue of promotion letters should also be resolved. Our members who have been promoted are yet to receive their promotion letters. And the is also the issue of ...

The Confused State of Mind

Image
The development of Nigeria's economy has regrettably suffered devastating setbacks due to illiteracy, mediocrity, corruption and compromised government institutions. Since the setbacks are systemic, all attempts to turning to the positive side of development have failed, while trial and error is now the acceptable approach Sadly, Those-in-Power are presently counting the number of days to handover while the economy continues to deteriorate. In several states of the federation, economic activities have declined drastically, this has compiled Nigerians to seek alternative means of income. These means are criminal in nature. Interestingly, unfolding events suggest that terrorism, ritual killings, banditry, kidnappings and other violent crimes have become sources of livelihood not only for those outside government service, but for those in service. The situation is not abating, and the criminals are not relenting, even as tears, sorrows and blood characterize living in different ...
