Image
A former Oyo state Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has called on wealthy Nigerians to cater for poor Nigerians this festive period. Senator Ladoja made this call on Wednesday in an interaction with journalists at his Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan, Nigeria residence. ''We thank God for witnessing Eid, we pray that we will celebrate more Eids. I will plead with wealthy Nigerians to share with the poor the things they have to celebrate. The times are hard. Let us extend our hands of fellowship to others. I wish Nigerians Barka De Sallah. He expressed confidence that the present administration would make a positive impact, saying ''all of us know that we need to readjust and rejig Nigeria. It is now a question of how to redistribute wealth. We assume that he knows what he is doing and he will do well. We will get there.''

Protecting Poor Nigerians from the Unpredictable Price Mechanism

Image
Nigeria's chronic budget deficit has brought about an unhindered increase in the national debt Indeed, the multiple taxation by the government at all levels may now be too embarrassing for an economy that majorly revolves around the motive of personal gain. Without doubt, the redistribution of disposable income from the well-to-do to the indigent would increase the average propensity to consume, since the marginal propensity of the indigent to consume is higher than that of the well-to-do. Sadly, this approach is not in the thoughts of the government, although the budget deficit may have stimulated private investments. The government ought to cut down on expenditure on political office holders. However, in view of the fact that the economy is ailing, the government at all levels must be decisive and proactive in interventions in health, transport, electricity, unemployment, hunger and poverty. Of course, the protection of sectors such as education, health and agriculture which h...

Avoid Sin

Image
Let us endeavor to have a good understanding of all that has been said, before we react-to avoid committing sin. ways. James 1 : 12-21 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to spe...

Assets Declaration-President and Others should become Role Models-Former TUC chairman

Image
President Ahmed Tinubu, his Vice, state Governors and other elected political office holders in Nigeria have been called upon to become role models by immediately declaring their assets. This call was made by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''This is an opportunity for President Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, state Governors and other elected representatives of the people to become role models through leading by example. They should immediately declare their assets for Nigerians to repose unwavering trust in them. By delaying declaring their assets, they are not setting a good example for others to follow. For them to enjoy the support and trust of Nigerians, let them make the declaration of their assets public. This would serve as a solid basis in their fight against corruption,'' Comrade Emelieze posited. High Cost of PMS-We are Helpless-NASU UCH Similarly, members of the Non Academ...

Calming Frayed Nerves

Image
The burden of a nation is too multi-dimensional for a single power broker to manage. There are entrenched interests in the military, security services, a section of the judiciary and also the bureaucracy, while the population at large remains distraught and impoverished. Indeed, to inherit a badly managed and shattered economy is disturbing to those who know what is in stock aside from the high level of insecurity. Those-in-Charge need not feign ignorance about the pressing issues at stake, but go all out to tackle the issues, even as reservations, doubts and suspicions grow among the populace by the day. The Situation It is now very glaring that millions of Nigerians-outside the workforce- are contending with hunger, poverty, unemployment and a number of other hardships. However, it is the responsibility of those-in-Charge to save the situation.

Cater for Others

Image
Our savior always caters for our needs in all situations. We should also cater for needs of others because the Lord cares for us. Phillippians 2 : 1-30 1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath ...

Alleged fraudster extradited to face charges in $7M international advance-fee scam

HOUSTON – A 57-year-old Nigerian national has been extradited from France to face charges in the United States for his alleged leadership role in a conspiracy perpetrated against victims in more than 20 countries, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Uche Victor Diuno is set to appear today at 2 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dena H. Palermo in Houston. He arrived in the United States Friday, June 9. The charges allege Diuno helped to orchestrate a scam involving false promises of investment funding by individuals who impersonated U.S. bank officials in person and over the internet to victims around the world. Those victims were allegedly told they had to make certain payments before they could supposedly receive their funding. Proceeds of the scheme were laundered through U.S. bank accounts and diverted back to the scheme’s perpetrators in Nigeria, according to the charges. Diuno allegedly lead a criminal network of “catchers,” who sent phishing emails to potential vic...

The Perpetual Absence of Visionary Leadership

Image
The improvement in the system of transportation, to a very great measure, increases the physical extent and economic size of a country. However, in the Nigerian context, a number of factors have negatively affected the transport system and this has resulted in an astronomical rise in the prices of goods and services beyond the reach of a majority of the population. The prohibitive transportation costs coupled with the multiple taxation across the country and the unabating insecurity have all succeeded in ensuring that Nigerians remain in a perpetual state of hunger and poverty. Curiously, levels of government have channeled generated revenue from multiple taxes, unproductively, to real estate, while Nigerians continue to daily count their landed property losses. Indeed, the government at all levels have always contended with inadequate financial organization and the relevant knowledge. Sadly, economic stagnation is now a major characteristic in most cities that are contending with ove...

Nigeria in the Clutches of Those with dangerous Ideology-Former TUC chairman

Image
Nigeria is in the fierce clutches of individuals with ideology that is detrimental to the people. This assertion was made by a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze at a symposium in Ibadan, Nigeria. ''In Nigeria, it is still the same old story, the same drive, the same motivation and the same ideology. The mood is not encouraging. All the while, we have been having changes in nomenclature, but in actual fact, nothing has changed. It has been eight years of manipulation and it is continuing. These individuals are fighting Nigerians. We are already witnessing the extension of hardships. I am not sure if there is any hope for Nigerians'', Comrade Eemelize declared. Similarly, Comrade Reasheedat of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights(CWDR), blamed some of those in the leadership of labor for the attitude of insensitive political office holders, saying, ''the leadership of the labor movement ...

Listen to and put to practice the Word of God

Image
Be very familiar with the word of God and also, go further to put it practice for you to receive the abundant blessings and protection of God. Matthew 7 : 24-29 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Misplaced Priorites

Image
The lack of domestic purchasing power of citizens has been a set back for economically backward countries of the world. Monetary expansion in these countries has resulted in the inflation of prices of goods and services to the detriment of the people. Indeed, in a number of countries, the great majority who are poor are manipulated to focus on smart phones and related products as urgent priorities even as they wallow in abject poverty. Sadly, these products are not locally produced, but imported from economically viable countries. Of worry, is the fact that the real income of the workforce is side by side to the subsistence level-with little or no hope for a raise. The unimpressive income of the workforce has ensured that productivity remains at the lowest ebb, while redundancy, inefficiency and mdeciority take the center stage. Curiously, the prevailing hunger and poverty in a given geographical location not only inhibits the inducement to invest but also discourages economic progre...

Faith in God

Image
In this age of evil characterized by unbelievable and condmenable circumstances, our faith in God will take us through life. Hebrews 11 : 1-40 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of G...

Ensure Safety of our Deposits-Micro-Finance Banks Customers

Image
Micro Finance banks in Nigeria have been called upon to put mechanisms in place to protect customers from negative tendencies by credit officers. This call was made by some customers in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria, while recounting their experiences in recent times. ''These credit officers have for long engaged in unethical practices, such as collecting daily contributions and not remitting the same to their employers. We want to be sure that our daily contributions arrive safely at the vaults of our micro-finance banks. Most of us you see here have gone through harrowing experiences with those who collect our daily contributions. The management of the bank should put measures in place to ensure our daily contributions get to them and ensure the safety of our deposits, ''they advised. However, the Head of Credit of Apex Trust Micro-Finance Bank in Ibadan, Mr. Kunle Olagunju advised customers of the micro-finance bank who have complaints to visit its offices to lodge ...

Nigerians should Keep Hope Alive-Cleric

Image
Nigerians have been advised to keep hope alive and not despair in the face of avoidable hardships inflicted on them by a group of individuals. This advice was given by a cleric, Pastor Opeymi Ajayi. ''Nigerians should continue to be hopeful and not despair. Our God will visit those who are inflicting us with difficulties and hardships. Our God is not sleeping, He is awake all the time and takes note of all our travails,''Pastor Ajayi disclosed. Similarly, a former chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU), Comrade Fatoki Olusola- Cole has described the inauguration day pronouncement by President Ahmed Tinubu on the fuel subsidy removal as a great mistake. ''The pronouncement of President Tinubu is a great mistake and he was wrongly advised to have spoken that way on the day of his inauguration, when he was yet to get to the office to see and peruse the details of the proposed removal. I think it was a great mistake on his part a...
