Economy of the States

Image
Mediocrity, incompetence and ignorance have been the major attributes of governance in the states of the federation. Superior advice, counsel and guides were ignored and, rather, suggestions that were self-centered in nature were implemented. Indeed, so many states have been debased and defrauded of their resources by those who are beneficiaries of the manipulation of the system. The major focus is the allocation of the federation account, without recourse to accountability and audit. Nigerians now wish to know how the policies of the state governments have reversed the worrisome scheme of things in the affected states. Sadly, no one is ready to make such a disclosure, considering the mystery surrounding the growth rate of the economy of the affected states. The Uncertain Political Direction Only weak, deceitful and sinking leaders will consider it impossible to decisively give political direction to followers, when it matters most. But when the followers discover the air of ...

Come Out to Vote on March 11- Christian Cleric

Image
Nigerians have been called upon to come out in their large numbers on Saturday March 11 to exercise their voting rights. This call was made on Tuesday by a Christian Cleric,Pastor Opeyemi Ajayi in Ibadan,Oyo state,Nigeria. ''Nigerians should not be afraid, come out, exercise patience, come out to vote, monitor your votes for the sustenance of DEMOCRACY in the Presidential elections. Those responsible for the ugly situation have been identified and they will be brought to justice,'' Pastor Ajayi stated. In another development, the misappropriation and mismanagement of the resources-financial and otherwise-of the states has prompted labor leaders and their followers of trade unions to grab whatever is available from candidates for the next round of elections. To this end, workers have formed groups for engagement with candidates, while labor leaders vigorously defend anti-people policies for pecuniary reasons. In his reaction, the chairman of the Non-Academic Staff and ot...

The masses are afraid to come out, we have to go out to tell them not to be afraid to come out. We have told them that when there is trouble, they should go back home. Please, we don't want hooliganism. We must not vote for the wrong people in this election, Hadjia Ismail concluded. In his remark, the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) in the state, Dr. Adeniran Tella expr...

Avoid a Deferred Life

Do all that is necessary in the present time, while you reject the impulse to defer. Deferring essential activities that will attract success is a dangerous and frustrating way to order your life. Set your own expectations, standards and values. Your experience will take you to the top

The Political Fog

Image
Election manipulation begins when new polling units are clandestinely created in the guise of overcrowding in the original polling units. Indeed, Those-in-Authority are working round the clock to ensure that their preferred candidates emerge even before the elections. Certainly, a lot is wrong with the system. Without doubt, Nigerians have lost faith in the system. Among other reasons for this, include the fact that millions of Nigerians have been impoverished without hope, dehumanized and disenfranchised. Now, they look up to Those-in-Authority for austere stipends and handouts. Not surprisingly, the quest to sustain power has placed a high premium on securing power for self-centered interests. The plots of Those-in-Power and the counterplots by others out of power have almost brought Nigeria to its knees, even as desperation continues to trail the ongoing political fog, with abortive attempts at labelling the same preparations for the general elections. The Future.......? The c...

God Speaks to Us

Image
God always speaks to us through His Word, through the appostles and other faithful servants of old. Deuteronomy 30 : 1-20 1And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, 2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; 3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee. 4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: 5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee g...

Pharmacist Convicted for $1M Prescription Drug Fraud

Image
A federal jury in the Middle District of Florida convicted a Virginia man today for his role in a scheme to defraud Medicare of over $1 million in prescription drug benefits. According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Ronald A. Beasley II, 33, of Portsmouth, was the pharmacist in charge at NH Pharma, a pharmacy located in Lake Mary, Florida. Through NH Pharma, Beasley and his co-conspirators billed Medicare for expensive compound drug creams that they never actually purchased or dispensed, and instead provided Medicare patients an inexpensive compound drug cream not covered by Medicare. Inventory records showed that NH Pharma did not buy enough of the expensive prescription drugs to fill all the prescriptions NH Pharma billed to Medicare. In total, Beasley and his co-conspirators received more than $1 million in fraudulent proceeds from Medicare. Beasley was convicted of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and three counts of health care fraud. He is scheduled t...

Image
Concerned residents and indigenes of Ibadan, Oyo state have called on the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun,Alli Okunmade II, to, as a matter of urgency, scrap the title of Ezendigbo of Ibadanland. They hinged their call on the attempt to desecrate the position of the Olubadan. ''We call on the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun to urgently scrap the title of Ezendigbo of Ibadan. If you are observant, they are covertly working to bring the Olubadan position to ridicule. In addition, the activities of the Ezendigbo should be comprehensively probed for the good of society'', they stated. In most recent times, there has been an upsurge in lawlessness and all forms of criminality in several communities in the state capital. However, those-in-authority are either complicit or lack the will to convincingly put an end to the ugly situation. Use your PVCs to vote in Credible Leaders-Prof. Olagoke

Image
The much awaited general elections are just 11 days away and preparations by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) are in an advanced stage. However, Nigerians have continued to express mixed feelings about the elections. In this interview, the Founder, Spiritual head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Islam worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke JP outlines the reasons why Nigerians must vote in a new set of leaders that possess the political will to address the country's myriad of challenges. Excerpt: Do you think the outcome of the general elections will usher in a new set of leaders in Nigeria? Credible leadership in the Nigerian context is a farce, if we are to consider the socio-behavioral status of each of the presidential candidates as well as others who are vying for other sensitive positions in the next political dispensation. Each of them, however, have varying degrees of image issues. Without doubt, a winner must emerge among them. The present situation in the co...

The Stubborn Refusal to Learn from History

Image
1963/64, 1983, 1993, and 2003 are significant years in Nigeria's history. A number of political office holders may have learnt a lot of lessons from history, even though others have become perpetual leaners and have continually repeated avoidable mistakes of the past. In a number of days to come, Nigerians will elect a brand new President and the statutorily stipulated lawmakers. Sadly, February 25th, a date that ought to attract happiness and hopes for Nigerians, has become a source of great worry. This date will serve as the long awaited JUDGMENT day for Nigerians to either reward good governance or effect a change in the present status quo, where and if necessary, in the center and the 36 states on March 11. Indeed, the gloomy faces of Nigerians constitute a major indication that the democratic experience has been that of despondency, anguish, sorrow and bitterness. Without doubt, the journey has been a political mis-adventure directed by the political class, who have, ov...

Listen to the Word of God

Image
Teach the truth and proclaim the gospel. Make efforts to understand the role of the gospel in counsels and the Word of God and seek to give it a place in your lives and testimonies. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Rev. 3 : 10-22 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. 13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know ...

FBI Warns of Romance Scams Ahead of Valentine’s Day

Image
(COLUMBIA, S.C.) —The FBI Columbia field office issued a warning today to be cautious of potential romance scams ahead of Valentine’s Day. As Valentine’s Day approaches, it is likely scammers will exploit individuals online who may be looking for companionship or romance this time of year. Although 2022 data has not been released, it is expected there will be increased reported losses due to recent upward trends. “Cyber criminals use any information they can find about you to gain your trust, build a relationship, and ultimately steal your money or personal identifiable information (PII),” said Susan Ferensic, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Columbia Division. “We want the public to be well informed about how these scams occur and how they can better protect themselves.” The following are e...

Modifying Abnormal Political Processes

Image
Democracy thrives on justice, equity, good governance, creation of employment opportunities, creation of a conducive environment for entrepreneurship, compulsory free primary and secondary education, a robust agricultural sector and most importantly, regular supply of electricity and petroleum products. Sadly, candidates for political offices in Nigeria are yet to come up with verifiable and practicable alternatives to the present scheme of things in all sectors of the economy. Already, Nigerians are worried about the huge debt burden at all levels of government which is trailed by abandoned projects that are major features of various states in the country. The pockets of violence in different parts of the country is now the response of Nigerians to the malfunctionality of the socio-economic and political system. Existing institutions now superintend irregularities and disorderliness in the process of proferring solutions to the challenges bedevilling good governance. It is obvi...

Be Conscious of Evil

Image
Be conscious of those with evil intentions who quietly penetrate gatherings of the gospel to counterfeit and discredit that which is of God. Mark 9 : 35-50 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. 36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, 37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. 38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part. 41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, v...
