Image
Principals in secondary schools in Kenya have sent a Save Our Soul appeal to the National Cereal and Produce Board (NCPB) as a result of the prohibitive cost of living in the country. Their SOS is contained in a letter to the Ministry of Education requesting that schools be supplied with enough grains at affordable prices. This disclosure was made by the Chairperson of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association(KSSHA),Indimuli Kahi, during a news briefing. Kahi stated that the intervention would go a long way to salvage the worrisome situation in the schools, saying,''As it stands, various learning institutions are unable to run effectively due to the cash constraints that have pushed their budgets beyond limits.''

Courage in the Face of Adversity

Image
Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. 5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest...

Learning from Living Examples

Image
Nigerians have persistently failed to learn from history. There are a number of living examples who attained higher heights through the efforts of others. And in the process of consolidation, side tracked all those who were responsible for their ascendency. The living examples have now become part of history. Sadly, the present occupiers of the higher heights have continually introduced artificial crises to justify the billions of Naira that have been frittered away under the guise of securing lives and property, on a monthly basis. Contracts for the supply of vehicles were facilitated without due process, while such vehicles are not worth the value attached to them. Who are the contractors? The poor state of infrastructure, particularly roads, contradicts the humongous amount reported to have been committed to fixing the roads. In addition, hunger, poverty and the high rate of unemployment are now policies the government at all levels apply in governance. Several shuttles abroad ...

Causative Factors of Insecurity : The Antidote by Prof. Sabitu Olagoke

Image
The antidote to all forms of insecurity is a functional democracy run through high regards for fairness, justice and equity. Any alteration to a functional justice system and equitable distribution of material resources to the people without marginalization of any kind will ever hurt the polity. The Holy Quran 30 : 41-42 refers, ''Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of the need that the hands of many have earned, that Allah may give them a taste of some of their deeds, in order that they may turn back from evil. Say : Travel along the earth and see what was the end of those before you. Most of them were idolaters(driving agents of indiscipline and corruption). If the past is bad, sense and sensibilities demand that there must be damage control to correct today's anomalies. The failure to set up this appropriate measure in that respect will impede development. Leaders of thought must proceed with sanity promotion exercise using the due process of the culture of i...

All are to Blame for Corruption in Nigeria-Former Oyo Chief Judge

Image
Nigerians are to blame for the prevalence of corruption in the country. This assertion was made on Wednesday by a former Chief Judge of Oyo state, retired Justice Badejoko Adeniji at the official commissioning of the Ogunelu Aaare Alasa Dynasty Mediation and Conciliation Center(Igbejo), Oajaba, Ibadan, Oyo state Nigeria. ''We are all to blame for corruption. It was not so during Awolow's time,'' Justice Adeniji stated. In his welcome address, the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke admonished Nigerians to be peace-loving, saying, ''when we love one another there shall be peace in society.''

Leadership by Wishful Thinking and Make Believe

Image
The three point agenda of the present administration in Nigeria has painfully not taken the country anywhere in the face of widespread ignorance and illiteracy among the p[opulace in the last seven years. The failure to put the right people in the right positions has been the major challenge. In this clime, followership demands patronage, handouts and favors. These have impeded the search for credible leadership. Although certain political actors and national leaders have made invaluable contributions and given worthwhile counsel, their efforts have overtime been ignored. Suspicions, hurts and doubts now characterize the relationship between Nigerians and their leaders. Sadly, the priorities of those-in-authority are yet to include the critical areas which continue to plague efforts at engendering meaningful economic growth and development, since peace and security are achievable, bit seemingly elusive. Culprits of heinous and grievous crimes are still on the loose, while it is v...

2023-Pray for Competent Leaders to Emerge

Image
Former Oyo state Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has called on Nigerians to pray fervently and ceaselessly for the emergence of competent leaders who shall possess the ability to deliver at all levels of Government. Sen. Ladoja made this call recently in an interaction with journlaists, some hours after his elevation to the postion of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan, Oba Olalkean Blaogun, at hsi Ondo street, Bodiaj, Ibadan, Nigeria home. ''Nigerians should continue to pray for peace and unity. They should also pray for the emergence of competent leaders that shall be able to deliver. We need to be paryerful. Let us continue to pray to God,'' the fomrer Governor stated.

Between Interests and Falsehood

Image
The focus of Those-in-Authority presently, is to ensure that the outcome of the Ekiti, Osun and 2023 General elections meete their expectations and not the expectations of Nigerians. The prospect of not having free, fair and credible elections to achieve their electoral expectations endangers democracy. The past seven years at the center have been one big gret falsehood. Words have been in one direction while the action is at the opposite at the center and states. The electoral process today is now ostentatious and indecent. Shall the coming elections be determined by voting? Nobody knows. It is already obious that in the coming elections there shall be official attempts to rig.But shall it succeed? May be not. The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) ought to be made to realize that it shall be doing a disservice to the nation if the commission allows the ruling party to rig the coming elections. The qulaity of life, standard of living and depth of comfort of Nigerians...

The Scramble for Power

Image
Who are those that shall account for the unspecified number of innocent human lives that have been lost to violent crimes in this dispensation? This question continues to linger. In civilized societies, leaders seek power out of genuine nationalistic interest not only to transform the social and economic lives of the people but also to advance citizens' rights, the rule of law, and the course of democracy. However, in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, certain politicians continue to scramble for power in order to further promote sectional, selfish and personal interests. The above-mentioned have been the focus in the center and the states. Months to the 2023 General elections, known heads of cults and other outlawed groups, who are proteges of prominent political office holders and politicians have continued to move around freely engaging in their Stock-in-Trade. They also threaten, intimidate and cow opponents during campaigns and participate in rigging elections. They have becom...
