Half Salaries in Ondo shall have a bandwagon Effect-Ex-Officio TUC

Image
The percentage payment of salaries to workers by the Ondo State Government shall have a bandwagon effect if it continues. This assertion was made by an Ex-Officio of the Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), who is also a former chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The situation in Ondo state is very dangerous and it could have a bandwagon effect if allowed to fester. Workers are now left to the mercy of the Government suggesting that labor unions are asleep or no longer exist'', Comrade Emelieze stated.

Beyond the People's Reach

Image
Strangely, poverty alleviation and reduction seem not to be on the priority list of the state actors at all levels of government. The measures in the past years have failed woefully to empower Nigerians to be economically productive, with the sole focus of improving their quality of life. Poverty alleviation programs do not cut across all sectors of the economy, failing to adequately address the problems of low economic growth and high poverty incidence. Millions of Nigerians insist that beneficiaries of government advertised empowerment programs are not known to them. Transfer Money with Wise The insecurity everywhere in Nigeria has foreclosed any way forward in the agricultural sector. indeed, unemployment, access to affordable housing, satisfactory Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary health care delivery, quality education, potable water supply, and regular electricity supply among others, constitute the urgent needs of poor Nigerians, who are in the majority are beyond reach. And a re...

Erasing the Traces of Good Governance through Crime

Image
In 1975, the reign of terror was directed and supervised by the Ministry if Interior, where a comprehensive list of action was domiciled in Montevideo. However, events later showed that what befell the helpless citizenry had little or no direction or supervision. Masterminded kidnappings, torture and elimination were the trend, with government Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDA) becoming active while those saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property were always available to carry out the unimaginable. The separate arms for the state competed for dubious glory of apprehending more subversives and creating a system of sponsored mayhem. As crime and criminality became the culture, unfortunate relatives of victims met a stone wall at the law enforcement and government offices. Green Ford Falcon cars became a symbol with different interpretations, while the unexplainable continued unabated. Indeed, the deliberate absence of street lights in most communities ...

Abduction of Students-State Actors are Economical with the Truth-Ex-Officio TUC

Image
T he brazen and daring nature of terrorists who have now resorted to the abduction of terrorists has confirmed that state actors are being economical with the truth. Transfer Money with Wise This assertion was made by an Ex-Officio of the Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), who is also a former chairman of the union, Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The brazen and daring nature of the terrorists has only confirmed that state actors are not telling Nigerians the whole truth on the present worrisome situation, wherein students are now targets for abduction. State actors should immediately tell Nigerians the truth'', Comrade Emelieze stated.

The Value of Education

Image
Free and compulsory education from the Primary and Secondary levels is a step in the right direction for those who know the value of education. The renovation of dilapidated structures in public schools, the building of new classrooms, the provision of functional toilet facilities, water, and fencing all contribute to ensuring that pupils and students quality education.  Transfer Money with Wise Sadly, the stoppage of the payment of WAEC and NECO fees by some state governments, most especially in these times of insecurity and economic downturn, has denied indigent students the opportunity to be educated. Indeed, the educational system in Nigeria is in deep crises, while vital, literacy indicators point to a deplorable condition. Most of the schools, in the public and private sectors, have become breeding ground for criminals, trailed by an ever-increasing rate of school drop-outs. The quality of education has fallen significantly at all levels, just as cultism, gangsterism, ...

Empowerment : The Bigger Role of State Actors.

Image
The Public and Private Partnership trend adopted by state actors at both the State and Federal levels have sadly attracted investment in non-productive sectors: dubious estate developers, land grabbers, betting companies, hotels, petrol stations, and religious groupings with government-friendly posture and the productive sector: plastic soft drinks, sachet alcoholic stimulants, and enhancers. The policy is yet to attract internal and external investment to the productive sector,-the creation of employment and influencing economic activities upwardly. Transfer Money with Wise In a number of states the private sector, embarrassingly weak, while in others it is dominated by the controllers of the exploitative tendencies. Most of these states have already achieved the status of dumping ground for HIV/AIDS drugs including the ones that have been outlawed by the World Health Organization. The number of casualties remains unreported.  Indeed, prostitution, sodomy, and homosexuality...

Arrogance, Scorn and Leadership

Image
In Nigeria today, girls and women are trafficked on a daily basis, under different guises as domestic, service and factory workers. Trafficking is on, both locally and internationally. Unreported cases abound across major cities in Nigeria while victims are at the mercy of the criminals. Unresistable job advertisements are made to lure poverty stricken and jobless Nigerians into the world of perpetual servitude and hardship. Assurances are given to prospective victims on the financial assistance that would be rendered to procure passports, visas, travel tickets and other documents. An agreement is made, but sadly, it eventually turns out to be an agreement into ‘’slavery’’. The job advertisements now turn out to be for prostitution, forced labor, sexual assaults and drug peddling. Sadly, the law enforcement agents are doing little or nothing to eradicate the unabating crime. Traffickers lure disabled persons, children and old women from the villages to major cities to beg for alm...
