N70,000 national minimum wage a disaster—Federal workers

Image
Federal workers in Nigeria have described the 70,000 Naira national minimum wage as a disaster. The workers made this assertion in a letter to President Ahmed Tinubu dated 8th April, 2025, titled WHAT IS OUR OFFENSE? FEDERAL WORKERS HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH; THIS HARDSHIP IS UNBEARABLE; STOP THIS TORTURE , and signed by the National Coordinator (FWF), Comrade Andrew Emelieze, and Secretary General, Comrade Itoro Obong. ''Mr. President, you can not pretend not to hear us; federal workers are calling for justice. Our well-being is not taken seriously by you. The 70,000 naira minimum wage is a ridiculous disaster; it cannot even suffice as a transportation allowance for less than five workers for a month. Emerging Natural Factors

In most countries around the world, the interest of an individual has never been greater than those of these countries. However, this is not the case in several countries in sub-Saharan Africa.Indeed, a political party that has attained political power, is at an advantage to address the fundamental national question revolving around equality and justice. Unfortunately, in Nigeria today, the political party in power is proud to have regional and ethnic alliances which have ensured a divided country.
The rule of law is increasingly being rubbished on a daily basis while political and religious intolerance is now the culture and tradition. The unabating state of insecurity and the unending violence which has claimed several thousands of lives, suggests that the former and the latter have become means to various ends for Those in Authority. A political party ought to be a medium for the expression of the choice of the electorate and the avenue through which like-minded people may express their collective choices with vigorous unanimity. However, in the Nigerian context, a political party focuses on reinforcing the mindset of the present ruling political party elites and selling of land belonging to government owned schools in several states to supporters, cronies, admirers and well wishers. Those who have played and still play significant roles in subverting the will of the people are clinging to tightly to sensitive political offices, even as recent events have clearly shown that Those in autthority are not interested in presenting a credible alternative set of leaders and alternative policy choices to Nigerians, most of whom have been impoverished and are disillusioned. Interestingly, a number of factors are already emerging that shall ensure that the demands and aspirations of Nigerians become a reality, as those in authority are very reluctant to admit their inability to correct the myriad of wrongs in the polity.
