Let us pray ceaselessly for God to open the eyes of those who have political power and have become committed to unjust economic policies and deep social injustices. Amos 8:4-14 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, 5 Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit? 6 That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea , and sell the refuse of the wheat? 7 The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. 8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in t

Muslims all over the world have been called upon to share and assist the poor and needy during the 30-day Ramadan fast period.
This call was made by the chairman of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers' Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo state(BCOS), Alhaji Kolapo Carew.
''We pray that this time next year everything will be okay. Before the 30-day fast period, we have been fasting. The prices of foodstuffs have gone beyond our reach. I appeal to fellow Muslim brothers and sisters to share with the poor and needy. Let us help each other. In addition, I want to use this opportunity to thank the Governor of Oyo state, Engineer, Seyi Makinde, for paying salaries on the 25th of every month. If not for Governor Makinde, the story would be different. We thank him,'' Comrade Carew stated.

We want a Living Wage-Federal workers
Federal workers in Nigeria have vowed to reject any amount that does not translate to a living wage. The workers made this vow through the former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''We call for justice, we demand a decent, fair and just living wage for the federal work force. We will resist and reject anything less than a living wage. Our government should also not forget to clear all outstanding arrears owed to the federal workers. We specially call on the NLC/TUC to be very reasonable and pragmatic in their negotiation for a new national minimum wage. We are in total support of the position of the NLC/TUC for a yearly review of the national minimum wage,'' Comrade Emelieze stated.
New Electricity Tariffs Suicidal-UCH NASU Chairman
Health workers in the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria have appealed to the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the new electricity tariff plans. The health workers made this appeal through the branch chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU), Comrade Kehinde Abiona. ''Health workers in UCH want to make an appeal to whom it may concern or those in authorities to look into the new tariff plans for electricity in government-owned health institutions which are non-profit, but to serve humanity. It is very disheartening that a socially responsible government-owned hospital such as the UCH was put on a suicidal electricity plan that can hardly be paid for, going at our rates. The UCH pays N74.43 per unit and the new tariff is N225.00 per unit. The Federal Government should intervene by restoring subsidies for all the government-owned health institutions by increasing their monthly overhead allowances, which are presently n
Christians should Guard against six hindrances to Prayers in their Lives-Cleric
Christians have been charged with guarding against six hindrances to prayers in their lives. This charge was given on Sunday by Pastor Kayode Oladeji of the Peculiar People International Christian Center, Mokola, Ibadan, Nigeria. Pastor Oladimeji listed the six hindrances to include-1)Lack of knowledge(Ignorance). 2)Wrong motives and intentions. 3)Worries and Anxieties. 4)Deliberate sin and Disobedience. 5) Offenses and the absence of forgiveness. 6) Lack of Gratitude. ''You need adequate knowledge to pray effectively. Knowledge is very important. In addition, secondly, you must have the right motive for God to answer your prayers. God looks at our motives. God does not grant prayer hinged on wrong motives. When your motive is wrong, it becomes a barrier, it becomes a hindrance. Nothing will hinder your prayers from today, God will answer your prayers,'' he prayed.
