Criminality as the culture

The unabating crime and criminality in the Molusi/Solanke/Oyegbami/Olorunsogo/Oshodi/ Scout Camp/Felele communities, among several others in Ibadan, Oyo state, can be partly attributed to the activities of mechanics, Okada riders, artisans, and petty traders who are non-residents.

Those-in-charge find it very difficult to acknowledge that the above mentioned have for long been categorized as their loyalists, supporters, well wishers and proteges.

In these communities, the criminals take refuge in shops, beer parlors, food canteens, and deserted buildings with the consent of criminally-minded residents and community leaders.

These criminals are brazen and daring as a result of the unwavering support of a number of known, but unnamed enforcement agents.

Interestingly, a number of politically exposed persons have for long acted in condemn able ways in these communities, which are now breeding grounds for young criminals.

Sadly, young people are no longer interested in education as a result of the bad examples laid by their parents and guardians.

Criminality is now the culture everywhere, as those responsible for the protection of lives and property insist that they are in control of the situation.

For over six years, public primary and secondary schools have been in a state of disrepair.
However, those in-charge hope to renovate and reconstruct these dilapidated schools in the next 24 months.
The attitude of those in charge towards the ugly trend is suggestive of officially endorsing criminality. The academic performance of pupils and students has irredeemably nosedived, their results in both internal and external examinations are still unknown to millions of curious Nigerians. Indeed, parents, guardians and teachers form an integral part of the cycle of blame.
